As the weather starts to cool down, there are a few things I think about: leaves, the cool evenings outside by the fire, and football! When I moved to Arkansas thirteen years ago, I experienced people’s love of football in an entirely new way. When the Hogs are play football, life as we know it stops. Arkansans breathe football. The same can almost be said of high school football. Living in a small town, you can literally see the hometown pride for the high school football team.
Football pulls communities together. The community sets aside their crazy schedules and the busy work week to just relax and root on their local kids. It’s a showing of community pride and just all around fun.
When I think of football, I don’t just think of the sport and the game; the food is equally a part. What can I say? I love food! I’ll be happy to admit that. The all time favorite food that I enjoy when watching football is pizza. We love to make homemade pizza in our house, but sometimes you just need something easy and delicious. For me, that’s Tony’s Pizza.
Side note: Tony’s Pizza is giving away some really awesome prizes so be sure to enter to win below for a chance to win $3000 in cash prizes for a qualifying high school team as well as Walmart gift cards!
Just like the love of football that’s been around for decades that brings families together, Tony’s Pizza has been around for over 50 years. It all began in Salina, KS in a local pizzeria. That authentic pizzeria recipe was turned into Tony’s Pizza and since the 1960’s, Tony’s has taken great pride in serving communities across the country their delicious pizza made with real tomatoes and covered in 100% real mozzarella cheese. That makes it the perfect game day dinner paired with fresh veggies or my 7-layer bean dip recipe.
Sometimes its nice to give our wives a break… and this is a dinner all dads can prepare! Grab you a couple of Tony’s Pizzas from your local store; I grabbed a Tony’s® Pizzeria Style Sausage & Pepperoni Pizza and a Tony’s® Pizzeria Style Supreme Pizza from my local Harps store. You can even save $1/2 Tony’s Pizza with this current iBotta offer. While you preheat and bake your Tony’s Pizza, this 7-Layer Bean Dip Recipe is super easy to throw together and full of awesome veggies.
7-Layer Bean Dip Recipe
o Refried Beans, canned or a homemade recipe
o Sour Cream
o Cheese, Shredded
o Lettuce, Shredded
o Tomatoes, Chopped
o Olives, Sliced
In a large dish or individual cups, layer the beans, sour cream salsa and then top with cheese.
Now layer your veggies, lettuce, tomatoes and olives. You can also garnish with guacamole, but wait to do so until it’s just before serving time.
Tips: These are great to make ahead of time to store in the refrigerator as well. If you are using canned refried beans, add a teaspoon of cumin, garlic and chili powder to the beans to give them an extra kick.
About now you should be overtaken by the delicious aroma coming from the oven. It’s pizza time, I mean game time! You can truly taste the difference in Tony’s Pizza because of the pizzeria recipe, it gives it a truly authentic taste.
