Located in Northwest Arkansas, Eureka Springs boasts some of the most beautiful buildings and landscapes to be found in the entire state. It’s a wildly popular tourist destination known for its unique character as a Victorian resort village.
The entire city is on the National Register of Historic Places, which gives it all the more reason to visit. We’ve been twice and haven’t come close to seeing all of what Eureka Springs has to offer. Every time we visit, though, I’ll be coming back to this article to add our new experiences.
Two of our favorite attractions are the Blue Springs Heritage Center and the Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway.
The Blue Springs Heritage Center is one of the most beautiful locations in the world, period. That, and it contains quite a historical background; both of which should compel anyone to visit! The Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway is a tourist railway that offers excursion tours, a catered luncheon train and a catered dinner train… each one lasting a little less than an hour.
Our kids especially loved riding the train! Halfway through the ride, the train was stopped, and all the passengers had a chance to disembark and lay some coins on the track so they could be flattened. What a great souvenir!
The track carves a path through the Ozark mountains; you get to ride on the same path that was traveled on over a century ago, back when trains were a main means of transportation. It’s a slow, fun ride through gorgeous country that’s worth every penny.
