As a child, I remember when the Swan and Dolphin hotels were built and the excitement they generated. Because I was born and raised for 20+ years near Orlando, Florida, I had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World many times. Part of the fun was passing by the Swan and Dolphin hotels on the way to the Magic Kingdom! We never stayed there, but even at a distance, they were as memorable for me as the theme parks themselves.
Now that I have my own family, we still make our way back to Disney World even though we live several states away. The memories of visiting as a child always return as we pass by those familiar swan and dolphin statues that rest on their perches high atop the hotels underneath. Only now, we don’t merely pass by… when we can, we now stay at these awesome resorts.
Our most recent visit to Disney in Orlando was a spectacular vacation, and one reason for that was because of our stay at the Swan hotel. This was our second stay, but this time we were there a little bit longer than our last visit, and thus were able to soak in a lot more of the amenities.
The Swan and Dolphin resort is conveniently located right in the heart of Disney. They are literally next door neighbors to places like Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Boardwalk. Just a little farther are places like Epcot, Disney Springs, Magic Kingdom, and the other vast array of Disney resorts all around.
For this visit, we were able to stay in a room that had an unbelievably close view of Hollywood Studios. That didn’t mean too much during the day because we were off doing other things, but during the evening hours is when the fun for us began.
The kids were treated to great views of the Hollywood Studios fireworks, including the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular show.
You’re never far from anything because Disney transportation is at your service. From the Dolphin and Swan, you can use the Disney buses or take a Disney boat ride to Hollywood Studious, Epcot, and the Boardwalk. You can even walk to the Boardwalk and Epcot if you choose… it’s right there!
Of course, there’s plenty of things to enjoy at the Swan and Dolphin resorts themselves, such as several pools including a grotto pool, beach areas, playgrounds for the kids, swan paddle boats, and much more. Our kids loved just walking the resort grounds and playing in the beach sand.
Our kids also LOVED the Garden Grove restaurant at the Swan hotel, because on the weekends there is Disney character dining. We didn’t do that on our most recent visit, but we did eat there on our last visit and was greeted by Goofy and Pluto, as seen in the video clip below. (Full Disclosure: That visit was sponsored by the resort).
We will definitely stay at the Swan and Dolphin resort again in the future. There’s just so much to love, and boy is the location amazing! Anybody who stays at the Disney resorts while on vacation should stay here at least once.
